Tree Applique' in Wood-Triangles with Wayne Walma
Quilting with fabric utilizes thread and needle, Tree Applique in Wood is the attachment of pieces of wood to another piece of wood with wood pins. Trees will be the focus of the design in this woodworking class. The instructor will have available a variety of trees as examples of design possibilities for the students. Each student will create one (or more, if time permits) unique wood hanging of their own design. We will begin the class with a few practice applications using scrap wood to familiarize students with all of the steps in the process. A selection of sizes and species of wood will be available upon which students can implement their own design. An important piece of the class is to become familiar with the tools that we use. Foremost among them is the scroll saw. The goal is for the students to be comfortable in using it. Using it safely is the goal. Students will then proceed to cut, sand and appliqué following their own design. When completed, their projects will be ready for a coat of varnish oil finish, or if preferred, they can finish on their own. Creativity and fun in a relaxed, supportive environment is the goal. Tools to bring if you have them. Battery operated drill - small hammer - handheld sanding block (any grit sandpaper) - side cutter (Instructor will have some tools to share) Class is recommended for ages 16 to adult. Class fee is $55 with a $12 material fee. Pre-registration is required and fee must be paid prior to the class.
