MTU Students Share Their Experience at UN Climate Conference
At a public forum sponsored by the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, members of the Michigan Tech student delegation to the UN climate change conference will describe their experiences there. The presentation will be by zoom only. At the annual meeting known as the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), delegates from 199 countries and more than 100,000 people gathered from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Dubai. Every year since 2019, thanks to chemistry professor emerita Sarah Green, MTU has sent a delegation of students to the conference to observe negotiations and present their research, adding insight on energy infrastructure, policy and renewable technology to the global conversation around the world energy transition. MTU students hosted a panel on university divestment as a strategy for combating climate change. Find out about other presentations made by the MTU delegation and ask students about their experiences. Presenters will be Nyasha Milanzi and Mercedes Asamani, students in the Department of Social Sciences’ Sustainable Communities program and COP28 participants.
