History on the HIll - The Cliff Mine
Presented by Sean M. Gohman, Industrial Archaeologist, Historian, Author
In the first (1971) edition of Donald Chaput’s The Cliff, the book ended with the line, “The Cliff is dead.” The Quincy Mine Hoist Association believed that thanks to new archaeological and archival findings, there was more to the Cliff’s story to tell, and Last year enlisted Sean to bring the Cliff’s story up to the present. This updated (2015) edition of The Cliff acknowledges that while that aforementioned death was certain, it was by no means sudden. Join Sean and the QMHA to hear him discuss the importance of the Cliff’s protracted decline within a larger context of Copper Country development in the twentieth century, and how the now seemingly derelict site endures today as a living landscape.
