10 Cents a Meal Program
Providing healthy school lunches just got easier. Michigan's innovative 10 Cents a Meal for Michigan's Kids & Farm program provides schools, early childhood education centers and other organizations participating in USDA Child Nutrition programs with match incentive funding up to 10 cents per meal to purchase and serve Michigan-grown fruits, vegetables and legumes. Come to the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship's Zoom forum at 10:30 am Sunday, July 10 to find out how the 10 Cents a Meal program works, how it is currently being implemented across Michigan, and opportunities for expanding the program in the Western UP. Presenter: Melanie Wong MA, RDN is a Registered Dietitian and the Farm to Early Care and Education Specialist with Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities. She works to support Michigan's local food incentive program, 10 Cents a Meal for Michigan's Kids & Farms with communications and outreach support. Melanie attended Michigan State University, receiving her undergraduate degree in Dietetics and a minor in Sustainable Agriculture and Foods Systems. She also holds a Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences specializing in Dietetics from Western Michigan University.
