DESCRIPTION:Better-coordinated transportation options are a goal to improve access to education\, employment\, health care\, mental health care\, government\, and food/shopping centers\, especially for low-income and elderly residents. Learn about recent studies and plans to meet the needs and challenges for public transportation in Houghton\, Keweenaw\, and Baraga Counties.\n\n\n\nA presentation will outline the recent Michigan Regional Transit Mobility Initiative and Region 1 Coordinated Mobility Plan and how they relate to the Regional Prosperity Initiative and Governor Snyder's Special Message to the Legislature on the topic of aging\, "Making Michigan a Great Place to Live Well and Age Well." The presentation will also include examples from transit providers in Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties. A panel discussion with local providers and stakeholders will follow the presentation.\n\n \n\nThe League of Women Voters of the Copper Country is sponsoring this program in cooperation with the Western U.P. Planning & Development Region (WUPPDR)\, Michigan Department of Transportation\, Cities of Houghton and Hancock\, Regional Interagency Consumer Committee (RICC)\, BHK Community Action Agency\, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly\, and Portage Lake District Library.
