DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 11th\n\n"A History of Glass in America\," presentation by author and collector\, Ruth Van Goor\n\n6:30 - 8:00 pm\n\nCalumet Public Library\n\nOpen to the Public \n\n \n\nWith forty-seven years in the retail antique business and thirty teaching about in 19th Century glass and ceramics\, Ruth Van Goor is an unequivocal expert.  Her recently published book\, A History of Glass in America for the Student: 1603-1907 presents a history of glass manufacturing technology\, materials\, pattern designs\, colors\, and decoration techniques in a highly illustrated volume.  From Early American Pattern Glass beginning in 1826 through the invention of the glass pressing machine and continuing until the origination of Carnival Glass in 1907\, this text should enable a serious collector of American glass to judge authenticity\, date\, and value.\n\n \n\nOn Wednesday October 11th at the Calumet Public Library\, Ruth Van Goor will present her rules for the collector gleaned from 47 years in the business\, what the real antique market is (it's not all malls and eBay!)\, and what today's economy has done to the antique market.  Van Goor invites the audience to bring examples of what you may think is 19th Century glass and she'll use these pieces to help direct her presentation. \n\n \n\nCopies of the book will be available to purchase\, with proceeds going to support the efforts of the Friends of the Calumet Public Library.
